Working closely with accountants
May 4th 2011
From time to time in the life of a company, issues will arise or circumstances will change, leaving its owners or directors in need of specialist advice which the incumbent accountants or advisers may be unable to provide. In this month’s blog we explain how we work closely with many firms of accountants in providing their clients looking to buy or sell a business with specialist advice.
When deciding on an accountant for audit, accountancy and tax services business owners usually choose a firm located near their business that can provide these recurring services.
General accountancy practices often, by their nature, do not have the specialist knowledge or expertise to pro-actively help their clients in every eventuality. If a company wishes to acquire another business or an owner wishes to start planning an exit from their company, the accountant will be able to give some general advice but may not have the specialist knowledge, expertise or tools to carry out the transaction for their client. The vast majority of accountancy practices do not provide a full corporate finance service in respect of company acquisitions or disposals.
Accountants are often the first people business owners turn to when they are considering acquiring or selling a business and are well placed to offer initial advice and recommend specialists.
Business owners and accountants can therefore often be left facing a conundrum: A client may need help that the accountant cannot provide and the accountant risks losing the client to a firm who can offer specialist advice but who are also interested in winning the ongoing accountancy and tax work from the incumbent accountant.
As an independent corporate finance advisory firm, Strategic Corporate Finance works comfortably alongside accountants who have clients wishing to sell or acquire a business. Strategic Corporate Finance does not offer accountancy or tax services and therefore poses no threat to incumbent accountants, ensuring that no conflicts of interest arise, company owners get the specialist deal advice they need, proposed deals actually happen and accountants retain their clients.
This is a win: win result for the client. We work closely with the accountant who understands the client’s aspirations, financial performance and history in detail whilst providing the specialist corporate finance service.
We are committed to working closely with accountants and offer a hands-on director led service to achieve great results for their clients.
